Requirements - PD for ECEs in Canada

A minimum of 36 hours of Professional Learning (PL) accumulated within the issue/renewal date and expiry date (Child Care Services CCS Certification – Level One through Four (without Trainee Level). Professional Learning Reminders: -Keep original documentation of PL event in your personal file. -If the event that you attend does not issue a PL certificate you can document the name of the event, date, time and presenter's name on a piece of paper and have the presenter sign it at the PL event, it is your responsibility to acquire documentation. -Ensure the PL is related to the early learning and child care sector. AECENL does not require PL providers to be accredited with their organizations in order to offer PL opportunities to their members. The courses listed on LearnFormula are verifiable for PL and can be counted towards the triennial PL requirement. As long as the courses are related to the early learning and child care sector, they can be verifiable for PL.

The College's Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) program complements and formalizes the ongoing professional learning many RECEs do every day. Engaging in ongoing professional learning is important to early childhood educators. Registered Early Childhood Educators are not required to complete a specific number of hours or take part in specific activities, workshops, or courses for their portfolio. RECEs must determine for themselves whether an activity is an eligible educational activity for their CPL Portfolio. RECEs are required to complete the Expectations for Practice Module within their first year of membership. After renewing, RECEs must complete a CPL Portfolio Cycle every two years while they are a member of the College. CECE does not require CPL providers to be accredited with their organizations in order to offer CPLs to their members. The courses listed on LearnFormula are verifiable for CPL and can be counted as CPL. It is up to the professional to determine whether the activity qualifies as eligible towards their CPL requirement.
